Lane Barrett, Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (Psychotherapist)

Pronouns: He/Him

Intersecting identities that inform my practice: I am white, queer, trans masculine, able-bodied, and grew up in a two-parent, middle-class SES home. Some of my identities hold immense privilege and inform both my practice and how I am permitted to navigate the world. I am continuously working to decolonize the lens through which I view life and work.

Background & Approach: I hail from Washington, D.C. and graduated from Marymount University with a masters in clinical mental health counseling. I’m passionate about providing affirming care to the LGBTQIA+ community, with an emphasis on gender identity exploration. My approach is client-centered and insight oriented, with a psychodynamic, attachment-based, and anti-oppression lens. My work with clients varies depending on presenting concerns and the client, but my common thread is facilitating your inward journey, which starts with creating a strong connection with you. As we gain a clearer picture about your presenting concerns, we can also begin to create a path forward together, always with authenticity and safety at the forefront. Many of my clients are trans and/or gender non-conforming and choose to work with me while on their gender journey.

Theoretical & Clinical Orientation: psychodynamic; relational; insight-oriented, attachment-based; anti-oppression / liberation

Licensure, Certifications, & Fellowships: Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) - meaning I hold a provisional license, work with a clinical supervisor (outside of sessions), and am in the process of accruing the total hours needed for full licensure, which will be the LPC.

Education & Training: Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Outside of Work: I am passionate about continuing my clinical and social justice education through books, documentaries, webinars, and trainings. I’m also into bird watching, long solo walks, and visiting with friends and family.
